Don't Be Fooled By All The Pretty Little Faces!
"Readers are advised to remember that the devil is a liar." — C.S. Lewis
“Heavy metal music is the devil’s music” was a quote I heard more often times than not coming from those within the church, as they addressed my then musical choices. I always found it ironic that ‘heavy metal’ was “easily” recognized as “devil’s music” and should be avoided like the plague, but, other music outside that genre was somehow innocent and seemingly safe.
From a very young age, music was something that appealed to me. It drew me in. I remember my parents listening to artists such as ABBA, Willie Nelson, Super Tramp and Kenny Rogers to name a few. I also grew up in the 80’s and recall spending much time listening to all the “good stuff” like Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls, Culture Club, Madonna, Roxette, Yazoo, Depeche Mode and many others.
I listened to it all!
When we moved back from Argentina to the States, some of the friends I had made at the church my family was attending at the time, introduced me to what would eventually become the “hook in the jaw” that got me into heavy metal music: Stryper! Now, mind you that Stryper was an amazing band, very Christ centered and focused on sharing the gospel. Yes, they unfortunately had their prodigal moment, but eventually came back.
Now, I thought I had heard all of the good stuff by then, but, when I heard the heavy guitars, the melody lines and the supreme metal scream Michael Sweet and the crew had to offer, I was hooked. To be quite honest, I never gave it a second thought because they were a Christian metal band. I was all in.
Needles to say that Stryper was my ‘gateway band’ into the world of metal. I was immature in my walk with the Lord and only paid attention to the music and not the lyrics or lifestyles of the musicians. That led me to compromise (there’s that word) and I began to listen to secular metal. I spent years listening to all sorts of metal bands like Metallica, Guns N Roses, Motley Crue, Poison, Rage Against The Machine and Pantera. Remember family that compromise is a tool that satan uses to draw you away from the Lord! And yes, it even comes in the form of music.
The church used to address the issue of music and its alluring effect on the human mind and spirit. Sadly though, it’s since then moved far away from addressing such “controversial” issues. Satan is very well aware of this fact and has been capitalizing on the churches blunder, inefficiency and compromise with the world.
As I said earlier, most in the church were quick to point out to me that heavy metal was the devil’s music, but, when it came to other, much more tamed and innocent looking musical artists, the story was quite different. Those seemingly innocent looking faces and melodies surely would never be considered music glorifying beelzebub, right? Or would it?
We, more often than not, have a HUGE tendency to look at the outward appearance of man. Yet the Lord sees things differently than we do, as seen in 1 Samuel 16:7 when the Lord was giving Samuel an insight into God’s view on appearances:
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused (or rejected) him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
We see from this verse that God sees things from the heart’s ‘vantage point’. Let me see if I can illustrate that by asking you a question based on the following two images. But, in order to prove my point, you MUST be honest about your responses. Okay, so, which of the two following images would you say are most likely to write lyrical content that exalts Satan?
Would it be A)
Or would it be B)
Though I can’t say which one was your answer, you might be surprised to find out that Option A is a long time Christian thrash metal band from Melbourne, Australia called Mortification. Their sole purpose and focus was, and continues to be, to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost in the metal world.
Option B, Taylor Swift, is antithetical to the things of Christ.
“Don’t judge a book based on its cover” is an adage we’ve all heard multiple times, and, when it comes to the world of music, it couldn’t be more true. My hope in doing this video was to bring to light what a dark place much of today’s music finds itself in. Unfortunately, due to the churches lack of discernment in multiple areas, this being one of them, we find ourselves with yet another area of deep compromise coming from within the church. Many are embracing this “seeming innocent” artist known as Taylor Swift. She, however, is just a proverbial drop in the bucket when it comes to alluring music and catchy tunes ensnaring those within true Christianity.

I want to encourage you to make sure you pay very close attention to what is being said lyrically in music these days. If you’re a parent, you may really want to make an effort to see what your kids are listening to. Please understand that satan is trying (and succeeding) to capture the minds of the youth and the kids. And music is one of his main tools…or should I say “harpoons”.
Don’t let the enemy fool you into thinking for one minute that heavy metal (outward appearances) is the only genre he’s become overt in. No, it now encompasses all genres. Our task, as mature believers (prayerfully) is one that might seem tedious and daunting at first, but, in the end will prove a harvest for the Lord like no other; and that is to protect those we love, those in the fold (and alert those on the outside) of the dangers and occult nature of these “seeming innocent pretty little faces”.
As Jesus reminds us in Matthew 12:30 that:
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.”
How many within the church are embracing and supporting this demonic music is astounding. I’m sure that if we were to take inventory of how many parents not only allow their kids to listen and embrace this garbage, but encourage it by purchasing and supporting it, we’d be shocked and devastated.
As I’ve said many times before, and will continue to do so, that the church has allowed the enemy in, welcomed him and given him a comfy seat in our pews.
Family, take it from someone who’s been there. I’ve been to the shows, I’ve listened to the music and I can honestly say that what we see now is in fact the demonic, which at one time was considered taboo, is now celebrated as normal and innocent. It’s permeated every facet of the music industry: Rock, Metal, Hip Hop, Pop, Country, etc. We live during a time where deception is growing exponentially with each passing day.
We MUST be resolute in our Biblical convictions! Take a stand, and be firm in it. Pray to the Lord for continued discernment. And, as always, remember that the best way is His way. He’s coming back soon!
Have A Nice Day!

Amen Pablo. We should always be tuned in to The Holy Spirit and pay attention to Him because He gives us warnings when there is danger that could harm us spiritually. Discernment. That's important to use dicernment in all things. The devil roams about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour someone.
We want to remember what we are told, "test the spirits", because as you have pointed out Pablo, we live in a time of growing deception and it's only going to get worse. But the Holy Spirit in us helps us to be mindful, if we pay attention to Him and listen to what He is telling us.
God bless you brother Pablo. I am always blessed with your messages.
THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING TRUTH!
I feel your frustration and just left a mega church because of the world seeping into the staff. I have talked with the campus pastor & worship pastor with my concerns. With my own eyes, I have seen 2 men on the worship team kiss on social media. We had a 'Sisterhood Night' with a silent disco with only secular music playing. I thought it would've been a good opportunity to showcase good Christian music. I was told to listen to the speaker tomorrow about legalism. When the church staff states this is a tool to reach the lost, then I feel disheartened and question myself. But deep down I know that the world is looking for something different. The world is looking for REAL LASTING LOVE that can ONLY be filled with the love of Christ. I am in constant prayer for that church & the staff. It's so sad. I pray they turn around. I'm praying for protection for YOU for speaking the truth & that nothing will come against you. I've got tears in my eyes of thankfulness & gratefulness that you are doing what God is calling you to do. BLESSINGS UPON BLESSINGS to you!
