He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. — MK16.15
NOTE TO READER: Through this interview, please understand that I am in no way, shape or form trying to dissuade anyone from entering the mission field. In this interview, I am strictly making the point and showing that it is a calling. If and when the Lord calls the individual to missions work and the mission field, He WILL equip you and give you all the tools (including spiritual stamina) to follow through on that calling! Be blessed, enjoy and be challenged.
There are two words that come to mind when I think of Shane Lehman…SOLD OUT! Shane is a straight up sell out…to Jesus Christ, prayer, love and the great commission that is! This dude is your powerhouse heavy hitter for the Kingdom of God. Shane has answered the call to take the Gospel to all the world, and for him specifically, he was called to Mexico.
Mexico holds a very special place in my heart. My wife’s cultural heritage and background are of Mexican descent. My mother and father-in-law are of Mexican heritage. My son has Mexican heritage coursing through his veins. I have a lot of family from Mexico. So I am very grateful for the work that Shane is doing for the Lord in Mexico.
On top of the tireless work that Shane is doing down in Mexico as a full-time missionary, he is also an amazing videographer and photographer. God has truly gifted him with the ability to capture the mood and essence of a moment in time. He’s a YouTuber and Instagramer (is that even a word dude?).
There’s a spiritual battle out there, so prevalent, that it’s spilled into the physical realm. Shane and his family are truly on the front lines. He’s seen the ugly side of demonic activity, demonic possessions, drug addiction, poverty at it’s highest levels, and so much more. However, Shane has also been privileged in seeing God’s almighty power at work in the heart and lives of the people in Mexico which were bound by the enemy and have been set free by the Lord’s limitless power, infinite grace, rich mercy, amazing love and gentle compassion!
Let’s not be fooled, these same things are happening here in the United States as well! But, I’m sorry to say that it’s often times shielded by apathy, lethargy and sadly enough fueled most of the time by indifference.
My prayer is that Shane’s insight will help us become more aware of the deep seeded need for repentance, spiritual revival, prayer and surrender needed so desperately in our churches these days! For those of you who’ve read some of the blog posts, you know I am a firm believer that we are living in the last days. We must be busy about our Fathers business, making disciples of all men, and this is the call that Shane has answered.
(SERPENTS & DOVES) Hermano Shane, I can't thank you enough for giving of your time, not only to share with us about your journey as a missionary, but, to tell us what the Lord is doing on the front lines of "battle" as well. Before we dive deep, let’s get going with some questions that’ll shed a little light on ‘lesser’ known facts about Shane Lehman.

(SERPENTS & DOVES) I know we won’t be able to cover everything I’d like to in one interview, so we'll have to do a follow up interview later on. Okay, take us way back. Share with our audience what life was like before Christ stepped in, tell us about your redemption story, your testimony.
(SHANE) Well, I grew up and worked on a farm. I had 3 brothers and we did 'country' stuff. Started skateboarding in 6th grade. In High school, I loved to film stuff and bring out emotions through film and photography. I was a skater and tagger up through High school. Between the ages of 18 to 24 years old, I did a lot of photography for music videos. Had my photography business and when I wasn’t doing that I was getting high, graffiti, fighting and everything else that goes along with that. There is so much to say about my past, but I don’t ever think about it anymore. I'm a man of the now and future. As a new creation in Christ, it's crazy, that when I talk about my past life, it feels almost like a lie, as if it never happened. The reality is that it was a lie I bought into, as far as the acts of sin that I was committing, 'cause I was never meant to live that way. We were never meant to live that way. I hit a really low place in my life, to the point where I felt I was dying every day. I kept thinking to myself every moment "I’m dying". Well, after a week of being in that place, my girlfriend, who is now my wife, encouraged me to talk to her dad. He asked me if anyone had ever told me about the blood and power of Jesus Christ? To which I said responded "no". He said let's pray and it will all end. We prayed, and that very week, I began to follow Jesus Christ. I never did say the “sinners prayer", I simply asked the Lord to break my heart for whatever broke His. That's exactly what the Lord did. My heart broke at the thought of humanity lost, and gave me a desire for all to know the love, compassion, mercy, and power of God in their lives. That all would love God with all their heart, mind, soul and strength and love their neighbor as well. Because I now know real peace, real love, real joy, real life, real desires, I am committed to sharing the Good news of Jesus Christ so that people would know who they were made to be and walk in the fullness of what God intended them to be.
(SERPENTS & DOVES) There are probably a lot of believers out there that are considering the mission field outside the continental United States. How did the Lord speak to you about becoming a missionary? And, how did He direct you specifically to Mexico?
(SHANE) I asked for a month straight every day what I should do with my life. It was the only conversation I would have with the Lord. “What do you want me to do with my life?” I would sit in my car and talk to the Lord. I would ask in my bedroom, in prayer meetings. Whatever I was doing I would be asking the same question and then listen to see if I could hear an answer. I wanted to know so bad, that I went to the mountains, fasted and asked the Lord that same question over and over “What do you want me to do with my life?” After the fast, I had a dream (JOB 33:15-16 says "In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men while slumbering on their beds, then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction.") where the Lord showed me very clearly that I would see 100 million souls saved in Mexico. There are some other things that the Lord did to confirm that dream which are outstanding. I'm coming out with a video for my YouTube channel that has the full detail of why Mexico. My advice to those considering the mission field is this. Going to the mission field in other nations is oftentimes "romanticized" until you do it full time. You then have high highs and low lows, but the key is that if you keep pushing through the low lows, you eventually get to and stay on the mountain top. The biggest challenge for me is the language barrier, but I'm catching on much faster. I wish I would have done a language school for a year before coming to Mexico. If you go to the mission field, commit for 2 years, then decide if it's for you. 2 years is a good amount of time to see if the mission field is for you. Make sure to learn the language.
(SERPENTS & DOVES) What are some of the challenges you and your family face as missionaries? The reason I’m throwing this specific question out there is because there’s a lot of ignorance these days in regards to the enormous challenges, on multiple fronts, facing missionaries on the field.
(SHANE) When you do missions, depending on where you are called, and I think it's pretty much worldwide now, the biggest challenge missionaries face would have to be persecution. Just know what you signed up to do and be ready to be ridiculed for Jesus' name because they hated Him first. If you settle in your heart that you are willing to do anything that the Scriptures ask of us, it will be much easier to labor for Him and you will be much more effective in the mission field, or ministry in general. I've settled in my heart that it's my greatest privilege to lay my life down for the man Christ Jesus! So, you'll catch me ministering to witch doctors, the poor, the rich, the Muslim, Sicarios, children, Hindus. It doesn’t matter. I love people and I want Jesus to receive the reward of His suffering.
(SERPENTS & DOVES) Before we continue, I want to make sure that I cover the importance prayer plays. I know you’re very passionate about prayer and the power unleashed through a life of prayer. Why don’t you share with us your experience with prayer and the power of God working through prayer.
(SHANE) One thing that grabbed my attention is found in Luke 11:1 when "one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” What fascinates me is that they could have asked Jesus to teach them to raise the Dead, or how to grow a church, or how to perform wonders and miracles. They didn’t ask any of that. I believe they saw that the fruit of the advancement of the ministry, and the incredible revelation and characteristics that Jesus Christ manifested in human form, was happening from the overflow of His prayer life. Jesus said in John 5:19 “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner." Jesus also said in John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." This phrase has always gripped me. Jesus knows that apart from intimate fellowship with Him we could accomplish nothing. It's not so much about the accomplishment as it is the process. The LORD, the Triune God loves to do everything in partnership with us. It's God's desire for us to be in deep fellowship with Him and Him with us (James 4:8a).
(SERPENTS & DOVES) Shane, you’ve been in the mission field for a little over a new year, however, you’ve already seen the Holy Spirit at work in and through the lives of many people. Would you mind telling us about the ways that the Lord has shown Himself in different ways such as healings, salvation and radical changes?
(SHANE) I've been doing missions work for 5 years now, but I've been a full-time Evangelist/Missionary in Mexico for the past year. Let me say we can't put God in a box, that's for sure. I've seen people demon-possessed, where they were foaming at the mouth while screaming, “I'm not coming out” and then Jesus sets them free and they get saved. I've not only seen but have also felt a tumor shrink under my hand. Just the other day, I prayed for a man that had two tumors. One was the size of a small soccer ball, bulging out of his side, while the other one was the size of a softball, also bulging out his side. One of them disappeared immediately while the larger one started jumping around like there was a Conejo (Rabbit) inside or like something trying to get out of the skin. The tumor would only start kicking when I would pray. But the tumor was slowly getting smaller. Now I know some people try to figure it all out, but my job isn’t to figure it out, it's to manifest the love, compassion, and the Kingdom. My job is to stay out of the way so that the Holy Spirit can do His work. I have come to a place that I no longer trust my ability to advance the kingdom. I keep it simple. Listen, fast, pray, obey and stay out of the way! That includes my Bible always open in front of me. Even when it comes to the Word of God, I approach it as fellowship with Christ and not just 'cool facts'. I pray the Word! I talk to the Holy Spirit about the Word and then I do my best to obey, by the strength of the Holy Spirit.
(SERPENTS & DOVES) The Lord said that in the last days we would see a huge uptick in demonic activity. I can say with certainty that it’s very much out in the open now. Unfortunately, many (and I mean many) have become desensitized to seducing spirits (demonic) and have opened doors to demonic activity in their lives and their homes through differing forms of "entertainment", music, etc. There’s a sense of complacency and apathy within the body of Christ these days in regards to the spirit world. One example I see of how the enemy has gained a huge foothold within the church is through the Millennial generation that has unfortunately grown up on ‘Harry Potter’ and see it as a "harmless" trilogy. You’ve encountered shamans or witch doctors in the area where you’ve ministered. We know it’s NOT harmless. On the contrary, one can set themselves up for possession (for a non-believer) or oppression in the life of the believer by opening doors. You’ve seen the demonic first hand. Why don’t you tell us about the realities of demonic activity.
(SHANE) We must not entertain darkness by engaging with the ears and with the eyes any entertainment that is opposite and/or opposed to that which is outlined in the Word of God. When we find witchcraft, perversion, adultery, and innocent killing to be a form of entertainment you start slowly killing off your senses and searing your conscience. Behaviors that were not normal for the human race to engage in now become the norm. When you see the demonic as I've seen, I would strongly encourage anyone not to entertain with your heart and your mind anything that doesn't glorify the Lord. There's nothing wrong with telling your kid(s) they can't watch something that doesn’t glorify God and explain to them why. Let me tell you a story. There was this boy here in Mexico who couldn't talk. He used to be able to have full conversations. Then one day while watching Disney's The Little Mermaid he became mute at 5 years old. There is a scene in the movie where the villain, an octopus, takes the voice away from the little mermaid. While the boy was watching that specific scene, the one when the octopus took the mermaid's voice away, the little boy was suddenly voiceless. It wasn’t until he was in his mid-20s when my friend interceded and prayed for him, by God's power, that he was completely healed. The boy even recognized that was why he lost his voice. Now I know that it's probably pretty radical for people to believe, but darkness is just as much real as the light. We must walk in the light and not in the darkness!
(SERPENTS & DOVES) Let’s shift gears now and head into a new topic, one that is also near and dear to your heart…video and photography. How did you get involved and started with video, editing and photography? Did you work in the film industry editing video?
(SHANE) Bro, when I was in 6th grade, this guy came to my little old country school and asked if there where 3 students that would be interested in learning to edit video. So, I signed up! Avid cinema (now called Avid Media Composer) was the program we learned to edit with. I always enjoyed creating things visually. I learn better and faster if I can visualize as well. There was a point in my life, between the age of 19-24 years old, where I was working in the photo industry and music video world. I have photographs I did of Nipsey Hussle at his apartment were his mom raised him. I have photos of many different people, a lot of people that are known in different spheres of influence these days. I quit the industry when I was twenty-four. I remember the day the Lord made it clear to me that the path I was going down was not what he had chosen for me. I was chasing a dream that wasn’t the best for my life. I'm now 33 years old and I recently picked it back up again, realizing that my gifting is to be for the advancement of the Gospel, to encourage people to draw closer to Jesus and to speak the Truth in the darkness.
(SERPENTS & DOVES) How have you used your passion for video production and photography to influence others with the message of Christ? Do you believe that Christians should use Social Media as a platform to share the message of Jesus Christ? What advice would you give believers desiring to start a YouTube Channel, or Instagram personality as a means to use their talents to share Christ?
(SHANE) Keep your focus on Jesus and the scriptures! Don't get sidetracked by what everyone else is doing. Do what God has called “you” to do. Start a channel if you're doing it for more than just followers, subscribers and fame. I may not have 1,000 Instagram followers but I have a team in Mexico that I work with, and this past year we saw 84,000+ salvations with discipleship follow-up. We ministered to 354,000+ people and distributed over 141,000 Bibles in Mexico. I'm into getting followers for Jesus Christ rather than followers for Instagram. All that said, numbers on social media are not bad either, because numbers and/or followers mean awareness. Yes, Christians need to be on social media, filling social media with the goodness of God and with the reality and truth that Jesus is the only way to know the father. I think its Huge to use our talents to share Jesus Christ. That's what it means to love God with all your strength, our time, our finances, our influence, our talents, and gifts.

(SERPENTS & DOVES) Tell everybody how they can view some of your work. What are your plans for the near future in regards to mission work and pursuing your passion in amazing video work? Can we expect to see more amazing content from you down the line?
(SHANE) They can check out my work on my YouTube Channel and Instagram account. I’m planning to do twenty (20) Gospel campaigns in the witchcraft villages that are located in Southern Mexico. It will be a blast, there are so many people in the mountains of Mexico, whole villages, who don’t know Jesus. We have our fourth child on the way, so we're making room for that. In regards to video this year, I would like to start filming more of what we're doing and to start posting our devotional videos. I want to freely give away the revelation that God has freely given me. This is what I mean by 'revelation', when the Holy Spirit reveals a truth out of the scriptures that causes us to love Jesus in a more intentional way.
We are also looking into selling coffee as well due to the high cost involved with these crusades. So, we are trying to figure out a way to sell coffee so as to be able fund our evangelism efforts...we'll see though, that might not be what we are supposed to do, it's all in God's hands!
(SERPENTS & DOVES) Shane, it’s been beyond amazing! This has been such a rich interview. My prayer for those of you reading is that you’d be challenged by your insight to ‘clean house’ and be open to the Lord’s leading. Thanks again for being with us. We’ll check back with you again in the near future!
