Does Israel Matter? Why Should We Care?
"I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” —Genesis 12:3
I'm sure you've all heard the saying, made popular by the 2002 Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire, that goes something like this: "With great power comes great responsibility." Well, let me see if I can get you to agree with my 2024 version: "With great corruption comes great idiocy (and irresponsibility)." Something along the lines of that.
Most in our government, as well as many churches in America, have sided with the "Palestinian", anti-Israel and BDI movements, all the while to the exclusion of Israel. The heretical belief of Replacement Theology has also been embraced by many churches. We are witnessing in real time how Israel is being vilified on the world stage. Yet the questions remain. Does Israel matter? Why should we care? Are they really that special? What should my attitude be toward the nation of Israel in light of Scripture?
“CAPTAIN AMERICA” TO THE RESCUE!
Iran recently "led" a strike against Israel. Thankfully, it was quickly put down. However, not long after that, Biden took to the world stage to show himself to be not only a staunch "supporter" of the State of Israel, but the one who took a dangerous situation and "magically" saved Israel and Iran from a deeper escalation, while at the same time saving the world from World War III. Praise God for such a "fearless" and "dedicated" leader (sarcasm). Or as Pastor Tom calls him, 'Captain America'. I honestly couldn't stop laughing when I heard that.
Well, that was short lived. Here's the headline from an April 18 article on Israel365 News: 18 Israelis Wounded In Hezbollah Attack From Lebanon. So much for "Captain America."
I'm going to come right out and say it. This administration doesn't care one iota about Israel, it only cares about its pocketbook, re-election and total control. It's all about the theatrics, folks. Don't let them fool you. The anti-Semitism runs very deep in these dark, demonic circles.
WHAT ABOUT THE CHURCH IN AMERICA?
But what about the Church? Surely there is no anti-Semitism there, right? Not so fast. What's infected many churches these days is what I like to call 'Silent anti-Semitism'. Many of todays Churches have gone the way of the Left, and with it, the unwavering support of Israel. It is once again being vilified and falsely labeled as the aggressor or occupier. Much of this is the result of the demonic heresy we know as "replacement theology" (RT), "Suppressionism" or "Dominion Theology". Essentially what RT says is that the Church has replaced Israel, and therefore Israel is no longer part of God's plan and is just another secular nation like all the rest, and all it's promises are now found in the church.
This would mean that we serve a covenant-breaking God. One who doesn't keep His promises. One whose word means nothing. And if His Word means nothing, then how can we trust Him with anything? Replacement Theology (RT) comes straight out of the pit of hell. It's a cosmic-sized lie. Its damning theology has far reaching implications for the believer who entertains it. I would strongly caution anyone to get rid of any RT leanings quickly!
The one thing I've always found truly hilarious about those who espouse RT, is that they want all the blessings that were promised to Israel, but, somehow, there is ZERO mention of the curses that were also promised to Israel, should they play the harlot.
DID GOD REALLY MEAN WHAT HE SAID?
So, the question really is, did God mean what He said in Genesis 12:3? That He would bless those that bless Israel and curse those that curse Israel. If I’m reading my Bible correctly, then the answer to that question is a strong, resounding YES! Why? Because the Nation of Israel is VERY special to God. The Jewish people are the apple of His eye. But let me show you what the Lord thinks of them. Deuteronomy 7:6-10 says:
“For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face.”
The Jews are God’s chosen people. They are dearly loved by Him! And, that includes the Land of Israel that the LORD gave to the Jewish people to posses as an everlasting possession. They aren’t going anywhere, they’re here to stay!
Also, as a final reminder to each of us as to why we should not only embrace Israel, the Jewish people, and pray for the Jewish nation to come to know Jesus as their true Messiah, it is because of what John 4:22c says:
“…for salvation is of the Jews.”
Our Christianity has roots in Judaism. Our Bible was written by Jews. And our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was a Jew. We should be so thankful for the Jewish nation of Israel. We should be in prayer for their salvation. And this means that we should support them!
Also, don't forget that the Abrahamic covenant is an everlasting, unconditional covenant. This means that the Lord is serious about what He said in Genesis 12, and so should we be!
The plan that God has set in motion for the nation of Israel will come to pass, just as He promised. The blessings for those who bless Israel are REAL. But let us not forget that if we try to thwart the plan of Almighty God for Israel by cursing them and turning our backs on them, the curses He speaks of are just as REAL.
Pray for the nation of Israel and her people! Bless them and you will be blessed by God Almighty in return!
